🇫🇷 France vs 🇸🇳 Senegal

France have been knocking on the door of back-to-back World Cup titles — runners-up in Qatar 2022 after their 2018 triumph in Russia. Kylian Mbappé and company arrive in New York as one of the hottest tickets in the tournament. Senegal, on the other hand, bring the same physicality and pressing intensity that made them a nightmare for Europe's best four years ago.

New York's enormous French and Senegalese diaspora communities mean MetLife will be split in two — expect noise levels to rival the Final.

🚇 Getting to MetLife Stadium

MetLife is in East Rutherford, NJ. For a 3 pm ET kickoff, plan to leave Manhattan by 11:30 am to visit the fan zone first, or by 12:30 pm if going straight to the stadium.

1

NJ Transit Meadowlands line from Penn Station — direct to MetLife on match days. ~25 min. First match-day trains start ~3.5 hours before kickoff (around 11:30 am).

2

NJ Transit to Secaucus Junction, then free Meadowlands shuttle bus (10 min). More frequent departures than the direct Meadowlands line.

3

Coach USA Express Bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd St). Board from the World Cup/FIFA designated stop on the ground floor.

Monday afternoon traffic: Even for a Monday match, Route 3 heading into the Meadowlands will be slow from midday onwards. Give yourself extra buffer if driving, or book the express bus.

🎉 FIFA Fan Zone

The Times Square FIFA Fan Zone will be buzzing — both the French and Senegalese communities in New York are large and loud. Arrive 2–3 hours before the match for the best atmosphere. The MetLife Plaza fan zone outside the stadium is also excellent for match-day energy.

Heads up: Senegalese fans traditionally bring drums and horns — the vibe outside is incredible. Give yourself 90 minutes at the fan zone before heading to the stadium gates.

🏨 Where to Stay

Midtown Manhattan is ideal — direct NJ Transit access, Times Square Fan Zone on your doorstep, and endless dining options. If you're watching multiple matches in New York (including the Final on July 19), it's worth booking a hotel for the full stretch now.

💡 Match Day Tips

  • 3 pm ET kickoff means you can take a morning train — leave Penn Station by 11:30 am and spend 90 min at the fan zone before gates open.
  • The French national team colours (blue, white, red) are widely available at the Times Square FIFA merchandise tent.
  • MetLife Stadium has a cashless system — load your card or Google/Apple Pay before arriving. No ATM queues.
  • Cell signal inside MetLife is strong, but the parking lot areas can be patchy. Screenshot your NJ Transit return ticket before you go in.
  • Post-match: NJ Transit return trains run every few minutes. Follow the signs for "Penn Station via NJ Transit" — distinct from the Secaucus shuttle.
